From January to May 2026, Gansu Province’s titanium dioxide exports reached RMB 200 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 474.4%. This growth substantially outpaced the national average, positioning Gansu as a notable performer in China’s titanium dioxide export sector.
The province’s export surge is primarily driven by甘肃东方钛业有限公司 (Gansu Dongfang Titanium Industry Co., Ltd.), the region’s leading exporter. In the first four months of 2026 alone, the company exported 12,788 tonnes of titanium dioxide, generating RMB 170 million in export revenue, with an additional 5,000 tonnes planned for May. The company’s products now reach markets including India, Turkey, and Indonesia.
A key enabler of this growth has been Lanzhou Customs’ “One-Enterprise, One-Policy” service initiative, which provides tailored support including streamlined customs clearance, export compliance guidance, and assistance with international certifications. Local authorities have also allocated RMB 31.64 million in foreign trade development funds to support 32普惠性 projects and 2 provincial-level quality improvement projects.
Beyond policy support, the company has strengthened its competitiveness through operational improvements, including gas powder waste heat recovery技术改造 that reduced natural gas consumption per tonne by approximately 6 tonnes. The company achieved its first titanium dioxide export via the China-Europe Railway Express in May 2025, opening new trade corridors under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Gansu’s broader titanium dioxide industry includes key players such as Jinchang Longbai and Jiayuguan Zhonghe Huayuan, leveraging the region’s low-cost electricity, smelting by-product sulfuric acid, and energy cost advantages to position the northwest as an important base for sulfate-process titanium dioxide capacity expansion.
