TiO₂ Prices Are Weak Again: High Inventory vs. Weak Downstream Demand

The China TiO₂ market remains under pressure as we enter September.

According to the latest SMM data:
• TiO₂ Index: RMB 14,080/MT
• Rutile TiO₂: RMB 12,500–14,800/MT
• Chloride TiO₂: RMB 15,300–17,000/MT

What’s behind the weak market?
1.High producer inventories
2. Weak downstream demand
3. Ample supply
4. Limited room for further price cuts due to production costs

For buyers, this creates an interesting opportunity to review suppliers and test alternative grades.
But remember:
The lowest TiO₂ price is not always the lowest total cost.
Quality consistency, tinting strength, dispersion, surface treatment and supply stability can ultimately have a bigger impact on your formulation cost.

My view: September may continue to be a buyer-friendly market, with suppliers competing more aggressively for confirmed orders.
Are you seeing the same trend in your market?
