The Real Question for TiO₂ Buyers in September: Buy Now or Wait?

September has brought an interesting situation to the TiO₂ market.

Prices are not showing a clear downward trend, but at the same time, many buyers are still cautious about building inventory.

So the real question for TiO₂ buyers is not simply “Will the price go down?”

It is:

Should we buy now, or wait?

If you buy now:

You can secure your required volume before potential price increases, freight changes, or longer production schedules affect your purchasing cost.

But the risk is also clear: if downstream demand remains weak, you may be holding higher inventory than necessary.

If you wait:

You may get a better price if the market weakens further.

But if producers receive stronger orders and raw material costs continue to provide support, waiting could mean paying more later.

For paint, coating, plastic, masterbatch, ink and other TiO₂-consuming industries, I think the better approach is not simply trying to predict the lowest price.

Instead, consider three questions:

1.How much TiO₂ inventory do you have today?

2.When is your next confirmed production requirement?

3.Is your current supplier’s lead time and price stable enough for the next 1–2 months?

Sometimes, the best purchasing decision is not “buy everything now” or “wait completely.”

A partial replenishment strategy can reduce both risks — secure part of the volume now while keeping flexibility for later purchases.

From a supplier’s perspective, I also believe transparency is more valuable than simply telling buyers that “prices will increase.”

Every buyer has a different inventory level, production schedule and purchasing cycle.

The right purchasing strategy should be based on real consumption and supply conditions, not fear of missing the lowest price.

What is your strategy for September–October TiO₂ purchasing?

Buy now, wait, or purchase in batches?
