While most TiO₂ producers captured H1 2026 price hikes, Kuncai remained sidelined. Its sales were locked under long-term agreement pricing, which lags behind volatile spot markets. Even as domestic prices surged over 1,000 RMB/ton across five hikes, Kuncai’s realized prices stayed flat, excluding it from the industry’s primary profit driver.

Operational headwinds compounded the pricing drag. Upstream HCl supply tightened while suppliers adjusted schedules, disrupting feedstock access. Meanwhile, the novel HCl leaching process required extended equipment, keeping its 200K-ton facility well below full utilization in H1—suppressing revenue and weakening fixed-cost absorption.
Strategic Response: In-House HCl Recovery
To tackle external HCl dependency, Kuncai is fast-tracking a closed-loop recovery system. This insulates the company from supply shocks and lowers raw material costs over time. Once online, it will enhance production stability, improve margins, and grant greater pricing flexibility in contract negotiations.
Technology Remains the Core Differentiator
Despite short-term setbacks, Kuncai’s proprietary HCl leaching process is a game-changer—offering superior purity, lower energy use, and a smaller environmental footprint than sulfate or chloride routes. Its TiO₂ meets high-end chloride-grade standards (L* >98.7, tinting strength >110%). The company has entered global coatings supply chains, with automotive certification advancing on positive feedback.
Turning the Corner: Inflection Point Ahead
H2 2026 looks different. As the HCl recovery system ramps up and production accelerates, Kuncai is breaking free from earlier constraints. With favorable market prices and growing supply autonomy, it can renegotiate contracts and capture spot upside. Technology validation, capacity release, and cost optimization suggest the earnings inflection point has arrived—with more upside ahead.
