China TiO₂ Is Cheap Right Now. So Why Aren’t Buyers Buying?

On paper, this should be good news for buyers.

TiO₂ prices in China have been under pressure recently. In the week of August 17–21, the average price of sulfate-process rutile TiO₂ fell by around 2.03%, according to recent market data.

But the reality is more complicated.

Downstream demand remains relatively weak, while inventories across the industry are still at high levels. Many buyers are therefore choosing to stay cautious rather than build large inventories at the moment.

At the same time, producers are facing stronger competition for orders. Lower prices may look attractive, but they also reflect the pressure currently running through the TiO₂ supply chain.

So, is this the right time to buy?
Maybe — but timing is becoming increasingly important.
If buyers continue to wait, they may get another opportunity if prices remain under pressure.
But if September and October bring the traditional seasonal restocking expected by some market participants, the current low-price window may not last forever.

For TiO₂ buyers, the real question may not be “How low can the price go?”
It may be:
“When is the right time to secure the next shipment?”
